PM Deuba inaugurates newly-reconstructed Namuna Machhindra school

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba inaugurated the newly-reconstructed building of Namuna Machhindra Madhyamik Bidhyalay here today.

After the inauguration, PM Deuba stressed on the need to ensure quality education after the post-earthquake reconstruction of school buildings. The quality education is the need of the hour, he said.

“As 6,644 schools out of 7,553 needed to be rebuilt after the earthquake have now been reconstruction, the emphasis should now be on improving the quality of education,” PM Deuba said. He also said that the government has been implementing various programs to improve the quality of education and will ensure more programs in future to meet the goal.

Saying that the disasters also bring opportunities, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhushal expressed satisfaction that many school buildings in Lalitpur that have been in dilapidated conditions have now been reconstructed. She also stressed on imparting a quality education after the reconstruction of safer schools.

Chief Executive Officer of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Sushil Gyewali informed that many earthquake-affected districts have now earthquake-resilient schools with all the necessary facilities. He said that the earthquake-resilient technology has now reached the people after the reconstruction.

Saying that the basic reconstruction works of main infrastructures have been completed, CEO Gyewali informed that the handover of remaining works will be carried out from today itself.

The newly-reconstruction school of Namuna Machhindra Madhyamik Bidhyalay has 18 classrooms, science laboratory, library and computer class.

The Central Level Project Implementation Unit (Education) of the NRA reconstructed the school with loan assistance from the Government of Japan at the cost of Rs. 123 million, excluding VAT.

The school which was established in 1951 currently has 972 male and 522 female students. It also has 20 female and 17 male visually-impaired students with hostel facilities.

Mayor of Lalitpur Municipality Chiribabu Maharjan and Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi were present on the occasion, among others.
